Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden told reporters on Friday that both tight end Jordan Reed and defensive lineman Chris Baker will be held out of Sunday's road game at the San Francisco 49ers.
Per Andrew Walker of Redskins.com, "Gruden said defensive lineman Barry Cofield will likely slide back over to nose tackle after playing defensive end against the Buccaneers."
Cofield had been the team's starting nose tackle since 2011, but a Week 1 ankle injury landed him on the injured reserve (with designation to return) list. He'll have a chance to prove himself as the future at that position with a good showing against S.F.
Reed's replacements, Niles Paul and Logan Paulsen, have done an admirable job replacing him. In fact, Paul's work ethic has already helped him achieve a career year with 33 catches for 436 yards and a touchdown.
“It started in the weight room, him getting stronger, and then when the reps came his way, he started to make some plays and then all of the sudden his confidence started to grow and he is where he is right now,” Gruden said of Paul in September. “He's done a great job both in the passing game and the running game. He's a guy that’s future is continuing to look brighter and brighter every day. If he continues at this pace of getting better, great things are on the horizon for him.”
