In Redskins news today, Washington General Manager Bruce Allen offered up a comforting message to a fan base in need of some cheer after a troubling season.
During an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Wednesday, the Redskins' GM made it perfectly clear that the Washington Redskins are going to be buyers this offseason, stating that the Redskins are "gonna have some room to do some things. But we have some players who are free agents, and we’re going to talk to them first, to try to retain them. But we have the ability to maneuver around, and we’ll be active in free agency.”
As the interview went on, Allen brought up the New Orleans Saints as an example of a team who rebounded after a down year--"the Saints example, I think, is a great testament to coaching. It shows you what leadership, and losing Coach [Sean] Payton did for them for a year."
The Washington GM hopes he has found his answer in new head coach Jay Gruden. Gruden was hired by two weeks ago, receiving a guaranteed 5-year contract for over $20 million. Aside from his sterling credentials in the Arena Football League, Gruden spent 2011-13 as the offensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals, helping lead the Bengals to three straight playoff appearances.
