So it begins.
Robert Griffin III officially started his first organized game as the quarterback of the Washington Redskins yesterday against the Buffalo Bills.
All the speculation can stop, all the guessing must cease--Redskin fans must now sit back and watch RGIII do his thing.
Yesterday against the Bills, he did--4/6 for 70 yards and 1 TD.
He looked poised, confident, and at times too comfortable. While comfort is not a bad thing in the NFL, there should be a level of "alertness" at all times--perhaps that's just how good RGIII is.
Besides the three drives RGIII orchestrated, the Redskins offense looked horrendous: scoring 0 points after the change at quarterback, averaging 4.4 yards per pass play, and 2.7 yards per rush.
New-comers Pierre Garcon (3 catches, 58 yards-TD) and Josh Morgan (4 catches, 49 yards) solidified they worth, so far. Garcon showed his athletic ability scoring on a 20-yard touchdown screen pass from RGIII, culminating with a flip into the endzone.
While I'm not a fan of showboating, I found myself enjoying the spectacle as Garcon put that exclamation point on RGIII's first "days work" on the field.
Tim Hightower did not play yesterday, but don't count him out of the competition for starting runningback. Roy Helu and Evan Royster, on the other hand, both built on solid first-year seasons, taking the first team reps against Buffalo.
Rookie runningback Alfred Morris shouldered the load, rushing for 54 yards of 17 hard-earned attempts, both team highs.
Next week: Redskins vs. the Chicago Bears.
