Cross Daniel Snyder off the list of potential future employers for former Cleveland Browns executive Mike Holmgren.

Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the former Packers and Seahawks head coach recently stated that the time has come for the Washington Redskins owner to change the team's name:

“Absolutely,” Holmgren said on KJR radio, via the Washington Post.  “Because of what it signifies and what it means to so many people. I’m not talking football fans; I’m talking about Native Americans and all that.  Yeah.  Just change the name.  Big deal.  Change the name.”

When radio host Dave "Softy" Mahler asked Holmgren if he has always felt this way, or whether he just started thinking about it due to the recent push from 50 U.S. Senators to drop the name, Holmgren asserted that it's always been on his mind:

“No, I think I’ve always felt that way,” Holmgren stated.  “You know, I’m an old history teacher.  And I think if you read enough of that stuff and you see how people were treated, I think it’s the right thing to do. Now, apparently 50 Senators also agree with me.”

Holmgren also said that he doesn't believe that the pressure placed on the NFL by the U.S. Senate will be enough to get NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to force a name change. However, if Congress can somehow threaten the league's broadcast antitrust exemption, Holmgren thinks that may be enough to force some progress on the matter.
