Look at how bad the Indianapolis Colts are without Peyton Manning, clearly worse than the Washington Redskins. With Manning, the Colts go from a 2-14 team to a 13-3 team. So imagine where Peyton Manning could take the 6-10 Redskins!
The Colts and Manning are clearly not getting along at the moment and there is a good chance that Manning could end up being available, and with the Redskins a strong candidate to land the 4-time NFL MVP, people and DC are starting to talk. Former Redskin's quarterback Joe Theismann has spoken out strongly against the idea. He says that going after Manning is repeating the dreadful history of this franchise, constantly going after big names in the off-season only to be disappointed.
Also, the Redskins need a long term solution at quarterback and Peyton is not that solution. In a matter of years, whether things go right or wrong with Manning at quarterback for Washington, the Redskins will be stuck searching for another quarterback out of the draft. They are in a decent position to get one now! Why give that up?
But not only is this a bad move for the Redskins, it would be a disastrous move for Peyton Manning. The man is considered a lock for the Hall of Fame and considered one of the best to ever play this game. All players have the utmost respect for Manning and he is considered a fan favorite, whether you're from Indy or not. He turned the Colts into a consistent playoff team when they sat at the bottom of the league standings for years before Manning's arrival.
With all this going for him, Peyton Manning should take some time to sit down and answer the question, "am I really willing to throw away my reputation to play for the Redskins?" Ask Donovan McNabb or Albert Haynesworth. Playing for the Redskins is the beginning of a downward spiral for your career.
Donovan McNabb was a beloved member of the Eagles franchise. Considered one of the best quarterbacks in the league in his golden days, but still playing at a high level at the time of his departure. Then he leaves to come to Washington. What happens? He gets benched! for Rex Grossman!! He later leaves to go play for the Vikings where he is benched again! This time in favor of rookie Christian Ponder.
Albert Haynesworth was one of the best defensive players in the league with the Tennessee Titans. The Redskins would surely improve their defense by bringing him on board. Except, it's the Redskins. He crashed and burned in Washington, benched by coach Mike Shanahan for refusing to play nose tackle. He ends up with New England where he had no further success. Today, he is with the Buccaneers, an average defensive lineman.
It all started in Washington in both scenarios. My advice to Peyton: save your career! Do not come to Washington! I am far too big a fan of yours to see you fail due to a dysfunctional franchise!
But if Snyder felt like bringing Tebow along...I couldn't complain.
