With the fifth pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select Brandon Scherff out of Iowa.
Position: Offensive Tackle, Guard
Measurables: 6’5”, 319 lbs, 33 ⅜” arm length, 11” hands
Analysis:
During his senior season at Iowa, Scherff won the Outland Trophy given to the nation’s most outstanding interior offensive lineman. A first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2013 & 2014, Scherff was named a Permanent Team Captain by the Hawkeyes after spending four years as a member of the Iowa Leadership Group.
In addition to his outstanding leadership capabilities, Scherff boasts stellar straight-line speed (5.05 sec 40-yard dash at the Combine) and a dead-lift power from the weight room that he uses to stand up and drive through opposing defensive linemen. He is nimble from side to side, making it nearly impossible for defensive ends to set the edge against him. Versatile enough to swing inside and outside on the line, his elite recognition skills and instincts off the snap have a litany of NFL scouts pegging him as a franchise guard in the making.
