Alex Ovechkin is known for his goal-scoring, but he can drop the gloves, too.
Ovechkin pummeled Carolina Hurricanes rookie Andrei Svechnikov in the first period of Game 3 of the Washington Capitals’ first-round series Monday night.
Ovechkin apparently had had enough of Russian countryman Svechnikov, who was bumping and baiting the Washington captain, then made the first shove.
Soon as they agreed to a proper fight, Ovechkin dropped his gloves and had both his hands at Svechnikov’s neck before the 2018 No. 2 overall draft pick could react. A few quick right hooks later, Svechnikov was flat on his back.
