The last day of the 2015-16 NHL regular season for much of the NHL has already been full of drama. The Washington Capitals don’t play until 8, but their playoff opponent has finally been settled due to the results of several key early games.
The Boston Bruins were trounced by the Ottawa Senators by a score of 6-1, yet still held on to the eighth and final playoff spot. Because this was their last game, they would not be able to do better than 93 points. The Detroit Red Wings, who were battling the Bruins for the third Atlantic Division playoff spot, also lost Saturday, but were locked into the playoffs with the same number of points due to a tiebreaker.
