When the Washington Capitals signed Justin Williams during the early days of free agency in the summer of 2015, they were bringing in someone that fit the narrative of a playoff performer. Better yet, he has been dubbed “Mr. Game Seven” for his impeccable record in those deciding games.
The Capitals also made a move mid-season, signing free agent Mike Richards after he dealt with legal troubles. Richards also brought a Stanley Cup-winning pedigree into Washington along with Williams, his former teammate in Los Angeles.
So far, their contributions have not lived up to the reputation that they carried.
