When the Washington Capitals acquired Mike Richards mid-season through free agency and then Daniel Winnik at the trade deadline, it all but assured that now 25-year-old Michael Latta would not be seeing much ice for the rest of the season.
As it turned out, Latta would only get into the lineup twice after February 22, and would watch the entire playoff run from the press box. Now, after failing to carve out a role in the bottom six, his future appears murky at best in Washington.
In his limited chances, Latta has shown flashes of offensive ability at times that provide hope that he can become a solid bottom six role player with the Washington Capitals.
