Washington Capitals: Drop In Corsi Not A Concern

Since our last check-in on November 13th, the Washington Capitals have gone 6-1-1. They dropped from fourth to seventh place in the league in score-adjusted Corsi. They went from 53.8 percent to 53.2 percent. It’s not an alarming drop by any means, especially since the results have been so excellent, but it’s something to watch moving forward.

It’s odd that this started when defenseman Brooks Orpik got injured. Him not being in the lineup likely has nothing to do with the decline. He has the worst possession numbers on the team and allows the most shot attempts against per sixty minutes at even strength of any Caps defenseman.
