The Washington Capitals inspired confidence with a well-rounded 2-1 overtime win against the Hurricanes. The Caps controlled the play in the first but couldn’t find the back of the net despite hitting three posts (two by Jason Chimera and one by Taylor Chorney). Braden Holtby didn’t have to do much heavy lifting at the other end.
Justin Williams was first on the board 90 seconds into the second period. Chimera was skating circles around the Canes’ defense and found Justin Williams in the low slot for a quick tap in.
