For the fans of good, no-ground-given, defensive hockey, this was a treat. Washington Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby stood on his head as did Edmonton Oilers goaltender Anders Nilsson. Countless shots were blocked by both sides and snipers’ shots were halted in mid-air with a flash of the leather from Holtby and Nilsson. If you don’t fall into that hockey crowd and find low scoring affairs to be a bit boring, then yeah, this one was probably a snoozer.
Many were expecting another high scoring barn burner after seeing the Washington Capitals and Edmonton Oilers combine for eleven goals only one month prior.
