Verizon Center Security Increased Even Before Paris Attacks

Security was tight Thursday at Verizon Center as the Capitals hosted the Dallas Stars. Loyal fans waited patiently to pass through metal detectors and have their bags searched to be cleared to enter the sold-out event. An increased police presence was also visible outside the arena and, as usual, 7th street was blocked off so no vehicles could pass the front entrance.

“The metal detectors are new this season, not specifically for tonight’s game,” said a Monumental Sports and Entertainment spokesperson. “The NHL strongly encourages it. At Verizon Center we use them for everything now — Caps and Wizards games, and concerts, too.
