Washington Capitals forward received a match penalty on Wednesday evening when he hit Ottawa Senators forward Curtis Lazar. At first, it appeared that Wilson might have hit Lazar in the head because of the way that Lazar’s head snapped back. The refs made a judgment call that they had to make without the luxury of replay and decided to hand Wilson a match penalty. Part of that likely had to do with Wilson’s reputation around the league. Part of it might have had to do with Lazar recently returning from a concussion that he suffered in October.
