8 – Number of days remaining until the start of the Washington Capitals’ 50th season. But it’s also…
…the number of former Capitals players who have been enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame (with, one would imagine, at least one more joining their ranks within the next decade or so). The first former Capital to go into the Hall was Mike Gartner, who was inducted in 2001 and will actually become the chairman of the HHOF next June.
Here are all of the ex-Caps to join the legends of hockey, the years they played in DC, and when they were inducted:
- Dino Ciccarelli – 1989-1992; inducted 2010
- Sergei Fedorov – 2008-2009; inducted 2015
- Mike Gartner – 1979-1989; inducted 2001
- Phil Housley – 1996-1998; inducted 2015
- Rod Langway – 1982-1993; inducted 2002
- Larry Murphy – 1983-1989; inducted 2004
- Adam Oates – 1996-2002; inducted 2012
- Scott Stevens – 1982-1990; inducted 2007
