The Noon Number: Shots Not Fired

18 - Number of shots on goal recorded by the Capitals in last night’s Game 1 win. That’s their lowest shot total for a playoff game since the Dale Hunter era back in 2012 (when it happened twice, along with a 17-shot outing that same year), and tied for the fifth-lowest shot total in franchise history; the record low is 11, earned in a 2-0 win over Ottawa back in 1998.

In fact, of the 276 playoff games in franchise history, the Caps have been held to fewer than 20 shots just 22 times - and including last night’s victory, have won just nine of them.
