9 - Number of players acquired at or immediately leading up to the trade deadline since Brian MacLellan took over as the Capitals GM.
His first deadline deals were carried out on February 28/March 1, 2015, when he brought in forward Curtis Glencross and defenseman Tim Gleason. The following year, MacLellan flipped long-time Cap Brooks Laich and Connor Carrick to the Maple Leafs for Daniel Winnik, and added Buffalo’s Mike Weber to the blueline.
And last year saw the under-the-radar trade for Tom Gilbert a few weeks prior to the deadline followed by the big splash: Zach Sanford, Brad Malone, a 2017 first-round pick and a 2019 conditional second-round pick for goalie Pheonix Copley and defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk.
