…the number of goaltenders that the Caps used last season for the fourth consecutive year. Braden Holtby and Pheonix Copley manned the roles last season, Copley replacing the departed Philipp Grubauer as backup. Grubauer had been the backup netminder for each of the previous three seasons. The last time that the Caps employed more than two goaltenders in a regular season was in 2014-2015, when Holtby occupied the top spot, and Justin Peters was the backup, with Grubauer getting one appearance.
