PITTSBURGH – Taylor Chorney’s first full-time NHL gig came with several other firsts. A first one-way contract, the first time he and his wife were able to put down roots, and most recently, his first fathers’ trip.
Even some of Taylor’s Washington Capitals teammates were unaware that his father, Marc Chorney, had also been an NHL defenseman, playing in 210 games over his career with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Los Angeles Kings in the ‘80s. This was a first for him, too.
Though Taylor, 28, had played in 68 NHL games before joining the Capitals this season, he’d always just missed out on a team fathers’ trip, the by-product of being a fringe NHL player who was never with the big club long enough.
