When Taylor Chorney woke from a pregame nap on Tuesday, he felt ill. He texted Washington Capitals trainer Greg Smith to warn him, and by the time he got to Verizon Center, it was worse. He got an IV in hopes of feeling better for the game, but he didn’t have any energy, his stomach aching as he resisted the urge to throw up.
“It was definitely a struggle,” Chorney said.
Chorney played just 4 minutes 34 seconds and was ruled out for the third period because of flu symptoms. Capitals Coach Barry Trotz said he won’t know until after warmups if Chorney is able to play against the New York Islanders, so the team added defenseman Aaron Ness as an emergency recall.
