It’s a celebration tonight at Capital One Arena!
Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik was honored with a pre-game ceremony celebrating his 1000th career NHL game. Orp1k received a Tiffany crystal(!), a silver hockey stick(!), and from the Capitals players themselves, a trip to Utah(!)(?).
Of course, Islanders coach Barry Trotz was back, as well, and the Capitals had a lovely jumbotron video prepared. Trotz was visibly touched by it.
But then it was back to the business at hand. The two teams traded 18 shots (11-7, New York) and 4 penalty minutes, but at the first horn, this contest is still tied 0-0.
