Postgame: One goal not enough for Capitals in physical Game 6 loss

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – John Tavares watched the puck drop from midair and onto the ice, and at that moment the freight train came crashing against his left side. Defenseman Karl Alzner had tracked Tavares across the goal line, when goaltender Braden Holtby jabbed the puck away, but now forward Alex Ovechkin joined the action, hunting for an extra hit. Tavares crumpled down and Alzner fell atop him. Ovechkin looked around, searching for the puck that had scooted along the boards to defenseman Nick Leddy. No one seemed to notice the blue sweater charging off the bench and tearing toward the crease.
