Shorthanded and rusty, the Washington Capitals struggled in a 5-2 loss to the Florida Panthers.
Coming off a stretch of only one game over the last 14 days, it’s no surprise that the Caps had some rust to shake off in their return to action against the Florida Panthers Tuesday night. Add in an Alex Ovechkin suspension and Marcus Johansson injury, and the Caps figured to be in an uphill battle from the start.
That’s not how it appeared early on, however, as the Caps generated several good scoring chances to start the game.
