After scoring seven goals in his first two games, Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin was named the NHL’s First Star of the week on Monday.
Ovechkin, who leads the league in goals and points, had four goals in the Capitals’ 6-1 win Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens — including a hat trick in the first period.
The 32-year-old Russian also had three goals in Thursday’s 5-4 shootout win in Ottawa.
Ovechkin became the first player in 100 years to open the season with back-to-back hat tricks.
