BOSTON – After sandwiching Boston Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller between himself and the boards, Alex Ovechkin looked over to the official in frustration. He was assessed a five-minute major for boarding, and the three minutes of Boston power play time that followed could’ve cost the Washington Capitals the game.
Ovechkin said the hit was a “hockey play,” and he doesn’t expect there to be additional discipline from the league. The NHL’s Department of Player Safety reviews every questionable hit, especially ones that result in major penalties, and if Ovechkin were to face suspension, he would first have to be given a hearing on Sunday.
