After missing the start of the season while recovering from hip surgery, Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom will make his season debut on Saturday night against Carolina. Coach Barry Trotz said there will be no limitations on Backstrom’s minutes and he will center the second line.
“It’s nice to be back,” Backstrom said. “It’s tough to watch games from the side. … I feel like I’ve been trying my best to get back as fast as possible with no rush, so it’s been working out well. Hopefully, it’s going to be a good one tonight.”
Backstrom said the decision for him to play Saturday night came earlier this week.
