Center Marcus Johansson suffered an upper-body injury during the first period of the Washington Capitals’ 4-3 overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday. His last shift was 12 minutes and 13 seconds into the game, and he was ruled out after that.
After the game, Capitals Coach Barry Trotz said he didn’t know the seriousness of Johansson’s injury, and that he hadn’t yet spoken to the training staff. Trotz also said he thought Flyers defenseman Radko Gudas “stepped up on him. He was cutting across to the middle, and he stepped up and got tangled up.”
If the injury is a minor one, then Johansson will benefit from the all-star break starting on Thursday.
