Backup goaltender Charlie Lindgren knew Thursday night that he would be between the pipes for Friday’s Caps home opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Despite the 4-0 loss, he still made 31 saves.
Starting goaltender Darcy Kuemper had a good excuse to be away: His wife was having a baby. And he was apparently thinking about Lindgren.
“I got a really good goalie partner that was keeping me in the loop. He let me know yesterday evening that most likely I was going to be in the pipes.
