Wrapping up general manager Brian MacLellan’s end-of-season news conference, here are some final leftovers that wouldn’t fit into the previous posts here and here.
During his first season atop the Washington Capitals’ front office, general manager Brian MacLellan made exactly five moves. On July 1, the first day of free agency, he handed three contracts totaling $65.65 million to Matt Niskanen, Brooks Orpik and Justin Peters. Then, on consecutive days in early March, he flipped one player and three picks for Curtis Glencross and Tim Gleason. Forward Mikhail Grabovski left as an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and defenseman Jack Hillen departed via trade in the Gleason deal.
