Grubi. (Caps Outsider)
Last week was an exciting week for two 23-year-old hockey players. Caps defenseman Nate Schmidt and goaltender Philipp Grubauer re-signed with the Washington Capitals to two-year, one-way contracts.
Schmidt quickly became a fan favorite with his boyish grin and tough defensive style. Schmidt played 39 games with the Caps last season. He also played 19 games with the Hershey Bears (AHL). Schmidt will earn $750,000 for the first year and $875,000 for the second.
Grubauer will be moving to the NHL full time next season, likely to back up with Braden Holtby, but Holtby has not re-signed yet and is expected to command a big time salary due to his banner performance last season (stay tuned and cross your fingers!
