It became a predictable exercise during the season, guessing which member of the Washington Capitals would speak first following losses, because the answer was always defenseman Matt Niskanen. The doors would swing open and there he would be, sitting at his locker stall, ready to author the first words for the night’s obituary, to scrutinize the defeat and then look forward into the future.
