(Caps Outsider)
It came as no surprise that the Capitals parted ways with head coach Todd Reirden on Sunday, shortly after their worst loss in the playoffs in many years, and the second first-round exit in his two seasons.
General manager Brian MacLellan wasn’t happy with how the team performed in Toronto, not just the 4-1 series loss to the Islanders but the team’s preparation. In a conference call with reporters, he stressed the need to find an experienced coach who could hold players accountable. MacLellan also praised Reirden for his six seasons with the team where he helped the team win the Stanley Cup in 2018 as an assistant.
