The NHL announced that teams will no longer be allowed to wear specialty warm-up jerseys. This is in response to LGBT-themed jerseys for Pride Nights, which some players, including Marc and Eric Staal, prefer not to wear, thus creating controversy.
Up until recently, warm-up jerseys consisted almost entirely of purple ones for ‘Hockey Fights Cancer,’ military ones for ‘Salute the Military,’ and green ones for ‘Go Green’ initiatives (which coincided with St. Patrick’s Day). Lately, however, teams have introduced more, including Pride Night jerseys, Title IX jerseys, and even cherry blossom jerseys.
