Washington Capitals television color commentator Craig Laughlin has missed some games recently without explanation, but offered one during the second intermission in Friday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens.
Laughlin, 67, announced that he will be having heart surgery at the end of the month and he is ‘optimistic and confident’ that he will be returning as soon as he can. In the meantime, he’ll miss some more games, but not all, before he has his procedure. He’ll be stepping away to focus on his health on Jan. 21.
Alan May will take over color duties with Caps play-by-plan man Joe Beninati.
