Copley, 27, was the backup netminder last season, appearing in 27 games, with a 16-7-3 record. Copley finished the year with a 2.90 goals against average and a .905 save percentage. The Caps signed him to a three year extension in February with a cap hit of $1.1 million. Rookie Ilya Samsonov will be the backup goalie behind Braden Holtby.
Copley was signed by the Capitals as an underrated free agent in 2014. The Caps traded him to St. Louis as part of the trade that brought T.J. Oshie to Washington, and then was re-acquired in the trade that brought Kevin Shattenkirk to Washington.
