(Caps Outsider)
Much like longtime teammate Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom is piling up the milestones, this time hitting a big one: 1,000 games played. This comes a few weeks after notching his 700th career assist.
The Caps wore No. 19 warm-up jerseys in the game against Buffalo, and held a pre-game ceremony to honor him. He was joined by his fiancé Liza, and their kids Haley, Vince and Alizee.
Backstrom was picked fourth overall in 2006, has more assists (714) and points (971) than any other player drafted that year. He’s also the 14th Swedish-born player to reach 1,000 games.
