Alex Ovechkin’s popular MassMutual commercial has been pulled off the air after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The advertisement, which features Ovechkin, Washington Capitals teammate Nicklas Backstrom, and Ovechkin’s wife Anastasia Shubskaya, is “no longer on the air,” the insurance company told ESPN. TSN was first to report the news.
MassMutual has not provided a reason why the ad, which debuted in October, has been pulled. The company told ESPN that its relationship with Ovechkin was exclusive to that one commercial. As of Wednesday morning, the commercial was also been removed from MassMutual’s YouTube page.
The funny commercial shows Ovechkin and Backstrom, who is Swedish, nonchalantly eating cereal as the 36-year-old Russian explains to his wife why Backstrom should be on his life insurance policy.
