A panel of advisers to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention voted unanimously on Saturday to authorize Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines for use in Americans as young as 6 months.
The decision now rests with CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, who is expected to grant final approval, launching a nationwide pediatric rollout as soon as Tuesday.
The Food and Drug Administration approved the shots for emergency use in children as young as 6 months on Friday.
Regulators approved shots from Pfizer-BioNTech for persons aged 6 months through 4 years. Previously, the company’s vaccine was available to those 5 and older.
