The Washington Capitals’ stout defense, backed by Logan Thompson in goal, led the way to a 4-1 victory over the rival Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night. The win put the team back in first place in the league again.
Jakob Chychrun got the first goal for the Caps. He was alone at the left point when the puck caromed off the boards and right to him, then fired a one-time shot that deflected off a stick and past Penguin goalie Joel Blomqvist. It was Chychrun’s 13th goal of the season, putting him third for all defenseman in the league.
