The Washington Capitals held their annual Hockey Fights Cancer Day on Saturday, raising funds to benefit Flashes of Hope, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic and Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
They auctioned off signed lavender jerseys worn during warmups, used hockey sticks with lavender tape; signed, Hockey Fights Cancer pucks; and lavender skate blades worn by Nicklas Backstrom.
In total, the auction raised $69,150, a far cry from the $12,315 it raised last season.
The top item was an Alex Ovechkin signed jersey, which sold for $4,300.
