With Scott Murray taking the over the day-to-day job in Washington from Mitch Korn, the Caps have hired Alex Westlund to take the day-to-day job of working with the goalies in Hershey and South Carolina.
Westlund, 41, was never an NHL goalie but has plenty of professional experience over his years. He played in over 750 games over 16 seasons. The New Jersey native spent the last two seasons in Europe. He has also spent time with USA Hockey, serving as the head goalie coach and evaluator for the New England District, being a member of the goalie evaluation group for the USA Hockey’s Select 17 Festival, and participating in the prestigious Warren Strelow Camp the past two years.
