The Washington Capitals turned some heads Wednesday afternoon when they placed forward Devante Smith-Pelly on waivers.
The move came after a confusing sequence of events in which the team’s own reporter, Mike Vogel, originally tweeted that forward Dmitrij Jaskin would be waived, not Smith-Pelly.
#Caps are on the ice for practice. I’m hearing Dmitrij Jaskin is not on the ice for practice today because he will be placed on waivers effective at noon today.

While the Capitals were practicing in Toronto a day before they play the Maple Leafs, Jaskin was not on the ice.
