The game started out with some fast-paced scoring. The Caps scored first just twenty seconds into the game. Alex Ovechkin blazed through Carolina’s defense and fired one just past Eddie Lack to give the Caps a one goal lead. Elias Lindholm of the Hurricanes scored less than one minute later to make it 1-1.
