DENVER — The Washington Capitals will look to set the franchise record for most wins in a season when they face the Colorado Avalanche at the Pepsi Center on Friday night. Washington is 54-16-6 this season.
The Capitals will be without their top center in Nicklas Backstrom. Though Backstrom was on the ice on Friday morning, he won’t play against the Avalanche because of an upper-body injury he sustained against the Philadelphia Flyers in the team’s last game. Trotz said keeping Backstrom out of the game is a “precautionary” move for the team that has already clinched the Presidents’ Trophy.
