Per Elliotte Friedman, the Washington Capitals have traded defenseman Joel Edmundson to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for the New York Islanders’ 3rd round draft pick in 2024, and a 2025 5th rounder from the Chicago Blackhawks. Washington is also set to retain 50% of Edmundson’s salary, giving him a cap hit of $875k for the Leafs.
Acquired from a trade with the Montreal Canadiens in July, the 6″5, 221-pound lefty played in 44 games for the Caps this season, recording 6 points and averaging 16 minutes a night on Washington’s blueline.
The deal gives the Caps another pick in the 2024 draft bringing their total to eight, five of which are within the first three rounds.
