Capitals tie franchise record in road wins

OTTAWA — In a season in which the Washington Capitals clinched the top seed in the conference before any other team officially punched its postseason ticket, the team’s record has been excellent in almost any situation. On the road, where the attraction of the league’s best team and Alex Ovechkin often leads to sold-out enemy venues, the Capitals shine.

“We’re trying to play the same style away as home,” Nicklas Backstrom said. “We try to be aggressive, and we want to get on teams, even if we’re on the road. That’s why I think we’ve been successful.”

The Capitals are 24-9-3 on the road, ranking first in the NHL in road point percentage and second in road wins (24) and road points (49).
