Capitals sign Garnet Hathaway, lose Brett Connolly at right wing

The Washington Capitals signed winger Garnet Hathaway to a four-year deal with an average annual value of $1.5 million, TSN and The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun reported.

The news broke about 10 minutes into the NHL’s free agency period Monday, and not long after multiple reports said that former Capitals winger Brett Connolly would sign a four-year deal with the Florida Panthers.

Hathaway has played all four seasons of his NHL career with the Calgary Flames and posted a career year in 2018-19 with 11 goals, eight assists and 200 hits in 76 games. Hathaway hails from Maine and played collegiately at Brown.
