The Washington Capitals have signed center Tim McGauley to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced on Monday. McGauley was on the Capitals’ 23-man rookie tournament and was an undrafted free-agent invitee to training camp, impressing enough to earn a contract.
McGauley, 20, had prolific numbers in Canadian juniors, 42 goals and 63 assists in 72 games last season with the Brandon Wheat Kings, a team that competes in the Western Hockey League. The Wilcox, Saskatchewan, native led the Wheat Kings in goals, assists and points last season and ranked third in the WHL in points, fourth in assists and tied for sixth in goals.
