ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals selected defenseman Lucas Johansen with the 28th overall selection in the first round of the 2016 NHL Draft on Friday at First Niagara Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
Johansen, 18, registered 49 points (10 goals, 39 assists) in 69 games with the Kelowna Rockets (WHL) last season. The 6’2”, 176-pound defenseman added eight points (two goals, six assists) in 18 playoff games to help the Rockets reach the Western Conference Championship Series. Johansen led Kelowna blueliners in points, goals and assists in 2015-16 and ranked third among WHL defensemen in power-play assists (25).
